MOOC EXULI: empowerment dei migranti, trauma e comunicazione espressiva

In the so-called “age of trauma”, advanced tools and methodologies are needed in order to deal with the historic phenomenon of migration which is affecting the whole Europe, answering to the urgent need of the communities, where these forced migrants (therefore exiles, ”exuli”) are flowing into, to be more equipped and ready to work towards the creation of real conditions of inclusion, in all its different forms.

The action of overcoming a condition of vulnerability, which in most cases are often related to reiterated and perpetrated trauma, tackles the process of marginalization of migrants, who are often quickly labeled as “disadvantaged” or deviant individuals compared to a number of standards of the hosting society so that they end up in a lower and prejudiced status. The project EXULI answers basically to those needs related to the social inclusion of young migrants through a process that combines tools of non-formal education and Lacanian psychoanalysis in order to re-write the subjective stories.

This process wants to bring a feeling of continuity within the new hosting country, taking into account the impossibility to carry on usual behaviors and the inevitable differences of what’s new (either coming from afar or not The Erasmus + strategic cooperation for innovation project in the field of Youth has developed an educational strategy, based on the pedagogical and psychoanalytic use of the narrative of trauma through communication tools deriving from expressive art, thus overcoming the barrier represented by the use of a language convey in its definition (lack of details and nuances, of the possibility of associating concepts with feelings and feelings), thus increasing the accessibility of the method developed by the EXULI project. Expressive tools have been used that go beyond just the language to achieve this aim and involve young migrants who are in different conditions and from different times in the host country.

The Compendium contains all the reflections and operational suggestions collected in 2 years by a consortium of non-formal education organizations and Lacanian psychoanalysis forums in Italy, France, Spain, and Greece. The ateliers of work with the young migrants who have been tested offer practices related to 4 different mediums: body, sound, word, and image.

The www.exuli.eu(link is external) platform makes all this available in a Massive Online Open Course open to educators, teachers, cultural mediators, social and youth workers, psychologists, and psychoanalysts, launching a Community of Practice that allows them to contribute and further evolve the work done so far.
