In Canik Public Education Center a "Glazed Tile application" course was opened in the field of Ceramic and Glass Technology. 15 women aged between 18 and 55 participated in the four- month course.
We wish to strengthen the cultural connection with the past with tile courses and ensure that the next generation is trained in this field for cultural continuity. We aim to provide the self-developing trainees with the profession of tiling.
The trainees consist of housewives. Various theoretical and practical trainings have been given to develop dexterity, vision and comprehension abilities. Trainees are provided with opportunities for personal development, occupation and contribution to the family budget. Apart from individual studies, it is ensured that trainees socialize by conducting teamwork. Using the traditional ornamentation techniques and shapes learned, tiles with new designs and new motifs were produced with the imagination of our trainees.
In addition to accepting talented students who are trained in these courses as apprentices or journeymen to their workshops, employers contribute to the home economies by selling their own production. At the end of the course, trainees complete the course as a self-confident candidate master who is prone to the profession of tiling. We aim to transfer knowledge and skills to wider audiences in the tile workshops established by our center.
