Dear EPALE colleagues,
EPALE’s new feature and improved homepage are now available
One of the most anticipated EPALE features has been launched this month. The partner search can be used for exchanging ideas, methods and best practices, creating networking opportunities, and setting up project partnerships with individuals or organisations in the adult learning sector across Europe.
After listening to you – the EPALE community, EPALE’s homepage has been redesigned to make it more user-friendly and easy to navigate. If you haven’t already, check out the new layout here.
Europe is learning about EPALE
Summer is finally here but EPALE’s national teams have been busier than ever. On 12 June EPALE was launched in the EU’s southernmost member state – Cyprus, in the sunny capital of Nicosia (EN). Further north, on 16 June the platform was officially introduced in Slovenia in the beautiful town of Kranjska Gora (SL).
News from around Europe
It’s been a dynamic month for Europe in terms of policy developments. Bulgaria has been working on implementing dual education – a system that combines apprenticeships and vocational education in one course (BG). Meanwhile in Romania the government adopted a national strategy on lifelong learning with particular objectives and course of action (RO). Policy changes can have significant impact as we can see from the Prisoner Learning Alliance (PLA) in the UK (EN).
Other countries are working to improve their education systems. The Czech Republic has launched a project for funding workplace trainings for employees with disabilities (CS). In Germany the national Erasmus+ coordinator “Education for Europe” conducted a survey on adult learning and VET stakeholders and their support for European funding programmes (DE).
June was also the month for application for the Austrian state awards for adult education 2015 (DE). The “Adult Educator 2015” award is given to individuals with outstanding achievements and innovative ideas in the adult learning sector.
Don’t miss – blog posts
EPALE’s theme for June was ‘Development’ and in line with that we have had some quite interesting blog posts by our thematic experts and guest bloggers. Prof. Michael Osborne from the University of Glasgow wrote a thought-provoking piece on learning cities and how adult learning contributes to regional development (EN). Adult learning can also play a role in community development – a topic discussed by our thematic coordinator Dr. Ian Atkinson (EN). On the topic of professional improvement, Andrew McCoshan wrote an interesting piece on how providers can develop their accreditation (EN).
Age is just a number – this is what an urban art workshop for the elderly demonstrated with a project in Lisbon that involved graffiti and seniors (EN). EPALE also published a case study on a Croatian librarian who led his library on the way to digitalisation with the help of the Grundtvig programme (EN).
