EPALE IN ACTION Presentation: National Museums Northern Ireland, Arlene Bell

Arlene Bell, Social Inclusion Manager for National Museums Northern Ireland, highlights some of the programmes developed to engage adults from the most socially and economically disadvantaged areas in Northern Ireland with museum collections, exhibitions and sites.

These include: Live and Learn, a six year Lottery funded programme which provided over 20,000 learning opportunities for older people across Northern Ireland; The Mindful Museum and Craft in Mind programmes for adults with identified mental health needs; a range of early intervention programmes, delivered in partnership with the Education Authority with the aim of supporting parents to help their children learn and a programme delivered in partnership with Leonard Cheshire Disability for adults with acquired brain injuries.

Participants in these programmes consistently report that museum engagement delivers learning, creates enjoyment and provides them with inspiration.
