Programme for Government

The Wheel has launched the #PutCommunityFirst campaign to mobilise members to collectively shine a light on the key policy issues which must be prioritised in the next Programme for Government. It is more important than ever to put community supports, and all those who rely on them, first.

Following the successful Stronger Communities, Stronger Ireland campaign, The Wheel has been hard at work to ensure the challenges faced by charities, community and voluntary organisations, and social enterprises remain prominent in Programme for Government talks and negotiations.

The Wheel believes that the role and contribution of charities, community and voluntary organisations and social enterprises in responding to the COVID - 19 crisis, in particular in the areas of health, social services, advocacy and community services, should be acknowledged through clear recognition and resourcing to enable our sector to survive, and to be enabled to play their vital role in the country's recovery in a way that best  ‘works for the good of Ireland and its people', as prioritised in the joint Fine Gael - Fianna Fáil Framework document.

The Wheel wants you to contact your local TD and re-iterate how important it is that the sector is supported, in order to support vulnerable people, throughout the next Programme for Government. In particular, make sure your local TD knows about the incredible work that your charity, community and voluntary organisation, or social enterprise has done to support people through the COVID-19 crisis.
