Integration of Ethnic Minority Women in the Labor Market

Integration of Ethnic Minority Women in the Labor Market is essential if we want to have social inclusion and productive society.

The project “Get trained, get support, get a job!” addressed this issue by conducting series of activities for women from ethic minority from eastern region of Macedonia. The objectives of the project were to conduct vocational Trainings; to conduct Individualized counselling; to create conditions for sustainable employment.

This programme provides developing and implementing of trainings tailored to the specificity of the minority ethnic communities;   made assessment of individual skills and level of knowledge of the participating women; provide job matching, in co-operation with local employers; vocational training activities, concentrated on the development of specific vocational skills and combination of in-class training with on-the job-training in co-operation with the perspective employer; Individual counseling and drawing of a simple but effective “personal development plan” related to a desirable “career path”; empowered ethnic minority women for effective involvement in the job market.

A limited in scope study was prepared giving an overview on number of unemployed women, classified by ethnic background, level of education, gained skills and region. (https://frlz.org.mk/analiza_nevrabotenost/)

Based on the analysis a tailor made theoretical and practical trainings were organized for 60 women from ethnic minority, individual counselling for development of personal career plan, and job matching activities through series of info days in cooperation with local companies.

During the implementation some recommendation were produced in order to be undertaken activities for bigger integration of ethnic minority in the Labour market:

  • The Agency for employment has not data base divided by planning regions;
  • The Agency of employment does not keep record about the skills and affinities of unemployed;
  • The needed information is not available for the target group, especially for those living in the rural areas
  • Lack of soft skills trainings developed (how to write CV, motivation letter, computer literacy etc.)
  • Long term unemployed have not any working experience;
  • Lack of individual meetings with councilors for career development
  • Lack of programs for strengthening self-esteem of the unemployed people.
