Public Education Center in Toprakkale is like a home for adults in Toprakkale district.  The demand for the training organized by the Center is so high that it has become the place where everybody in the district gathers.

As Toprakkale is a small district and economically disadvantaged, adults in the district sometimes feel socially excluded which is very dangerous for the wealth of the society. Besides the host community, there are lots of Syrian refugees living in the city who are trying to adopt the new life in Turkey and seeking for a second chance.  We believe that institutions should take action to do something for these people without discrimination, whether they are refugees or not. Latest researches show that societies in which people feel excluded suffer from high crime rates and other disorders. To make more comfortable environments, the important point is to create bridges with people, that is, to be in close relationships with them.

How should it be done?  As the Public Education Center in Toprakkale, we believe that there is more than one way to do this. As education and training are our main duties, we try to improve people’s skills in line with their abilities and interests and also encourage them to apply for the registrations to the training. These training create positive environments for adults and create a community who are involving in Life Long Learning, which supports them to be active citizens. If an adult feels himself/herself belonging to the society in which he/she lives, the society starts to develop and problems are solved.

Besides, we organize sports courses in an academic year for adults.  Adults are encouraged to apply for these courses, especially for health issues. At the end of each course, a tournament is organized within cooperation with Toprakkale district governorship. All the people in the district including civil servants of other surrounding districts refugees etc. join tournaments. When the tournament season comes, you can see that the atmosphere of district changes and people start to smile. This causes adults not to feel socially excluded and this social inclusion creates happiness in Toprakkale.
