EPALE Ireland Digital Giveaway Winners - UCCI

EPALE Ireland visited UCCI to deliver their Digital Giveaway prize pack and catch up on the great work being done to support the Ukrainian Community in Ireland.

EPALE Ireland's Support and Development Officer, Mark, went to visit the offices of the Ukrainian Crisis Centre in Ireland (UCCI) and deliver their Digital Giveaway prize pack. Meeting with Michael Baskin, CEO of UCCI, we took the opportunity to talk about the work being done, the challenges and the great achievements.

Last year, the UCCI had more than 2000 attendants across there diverse events, which included workshops, courses and 2 major events. Their Easter Festival had close to 400 people in attendance and their Pulse of Freedom event had over 700 people. As well as community wide events, UCCI also held 25 business events, including training both in-person and online, 70 participants received professional training and more than 50 received language training. The benefit of these events offered by Michael and the team in UCCI can be seen in the 20 Ukrainian-led businesses started in Ireland, all supported by UCCI directly.

As well as these practical supports and opportunities, we were very excited to hear about the UCCI choir and look forward to catching one of their performances in the near future.

The work UCCI is doing to support the Ukrainian community in Ireland is truly inspiring and valuable! I can see that the approach to integration is genuinely comprehensive — language courses, professional training, and even cultural activities like the choir are helping people feel more confident and empowered within their new community.
I find it particularly interesting how digital competence and ICT could be used even more effectively to support adult education and integration. In fact, I recently published an article on EPALE where I discuss the development of digital competence among adult educators in Estonia and Ireland, and I mentioned the important work of UCCI as an example of using digital tools to support adult learners. I believe this topic could be helpful for expanding UCCI's initiatives, especially when it comes to creating online courses and providing distance learning opportunities.

Thank you for sharing this important project! I hope my article can also contribute some useful ideas to this discussion.
