Social sustainability in a country or region is not possible without having the whole population on board; no one should be left behind. It means that a wide range of policies and initiatives need to be implemented: to ensure interconnectedness and include the remote areas; to ensure democratic values and critical use if ICT possibilities; and to bridge the digital divide and ensure equality by raising the level of basic digital skills of adults and young people.

Skills development has an important role to play in the immediate effort to lessen the impact of COVID-19 while the pandemic is active, in building the resilience of workers and firms, and in preparing for recovery. Time is of the essence in this response, to help speed recovery from recession, to get people back to work safely, to limit the career scarring effects of prolonged unemployment and skills mismatch, and to take advantage of opportunities that may otherwise dissipate over time.

“Challenging” is probably among the most used attributes to describe 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has overturned many of our certainties and has forced us to reinvent our lives, our careers and – in the end – ourselves. The Adult Education community has been strongly affected by these changes, but has also shown a high degree of resilience, responding to the challenges with an extraordinary creativity. And this power of reinvention, is reflected by the incredibly valuable, deep and diversified contents that have enriched our EPALE platform in 2020.

Ligi kakskümmend aastat on möödunud samade autorite poolt kirjutatud raamatu „Andragoogika.

"The Coronavirus situation also had a profound impact on us as adult educators. Naturally, a need arose to find out more about IT opportunities, to acquire new knowledge and skills needed in adult education and in communicating with each other. Distance learning and work experience, which helped to implement the Erasmus + KA1 adult education mobility project “Improving General Skills of Adult Educators Based on German Experience” was useful in working remotely."
