Too many young people leave school prematurely, running the risk of being unemployed and socially excluded. Fighting rising levels of unemployment – particularly among young people – has become one of the most urgent tasks of the European Union. EU businesses need to become more competitive by harnessing young talent. Well-performing education and training systems and youth policies can help to tackle these challenges by providing people with the skills required by the labour market and the economy, while allowing them to play an active role in society and to achieve personal fulfilment.

The HOME project held the conference ‘WOW! Europe embraces MOOCs’ in Rome 30 November 2015. It demonstrated the serious uptake on MOOCs in Europe with 30 submitted papers and over 150 registered participants including several Rectors of CRUI (Conference of the Rectors of the Italian Universities), a representative of UNESCO, the Italian Ministry of Education and the European Parliament.

The European Commission has announced a sharpened set of priorities for European cooperation in education and training.

At a time when unemployment remains unacceptably high, and European societies need to urgently address the challenge of social inclusion, the new priorities reinforce joint work at the European level.

The priorities aim to make sure education and training systems promote employability, skills and innovation, increase social mobility and equality, prevent violence and fanaticism and lay the foundations for democratic values and active citizenship.

Das von dem UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) in Kooperation mit dem UNESCO Multi-sectoral Regional Office for West Africa in Abuja herausgegebene französischsprachige Buch stellt Lehrkräften Methoden für den Bereich Alphabetisierung von Kindern und Erwachsenen vor, welche durch Forschungsaktivitäten unterstützt werden und  den Lehr-Lernprozess verbessern. 

Gościem specjalnym I Podlaskiego Forum Aktywności Osób Starszych w Białymstoku był Pan Ove Bjørken, przedstawiciel Wydziału Kultury, Wypoczynku i Zdrowia Miasta Trondheim, Norwegia. W swoim wykładzie pt. Culture from a health perspective (Dostęp do kultury z perspektywy zdrowia) przedstawił programy na rzecz osób starszych, jakie realizowane są w Trondheim. U podstawy tych działań leży założenie, że każdy obywatel ma prawo dostępu do kultury oraz wpływ, jaki na zdrowie ma  aktywność i uczestnictwo w kulturze.

Artykuł Daniela Jachimowicza, Pełnomocnika Zarządu Ogolnopolskiej Federacji Stowarzyszeń UTW, na temat standardów działania uniwersytetów trzeciego wieku w Polsce opracowanych przez Federację UTW. W tekście opisany został podział standardów na obszary, proces ich wdrażania i wersyfikacji.
