This booklet has been produced as a result of a Grundvig Learning Partnership which brought together European adult education providers across 6 countries: Romania, Italy, Spain, France, Germany and Ireland.
The partnership participants deliver a range of programmes to learners, predominantly learners with low educational attainment. All partner organisations have similar aims namely:
(1) The delivery of quality educational programmes in conjunction with the development of individual and social skills.

On 9 December 2015 the Employment and Social Policy Ministers have reached an agreement during the EPSCO Council on the Commission's proposal for a Recommendation on long-term unemployment.
Member States have committed today to strengthen support to more than 11 million people who have been unemployed for over a year. This will focus efforts towards offering a clear pathway towards employment.

Through the funding available for organisations and informal groups of young people, Erasmus+ helps to enhance the quality of youth work and offers valuable non-formal learning experiences. Under the programme, young people can experience going on a mobility activity in Europe and beyond. In addition, youth workers can improve their skills and competences through training and networking activities. The programme also provides support for meetings between policy makers and young people – encouraging active participation in democratic life.

Too many young people leave school prematurely, running the risk of being unemployed and socially excluded. Fighting rising levels of unemployment – particularly among young people – has become one of the most urgent tasks of the European Union. EU businesses need to become more competitive by harnessing young talent. Well-performing education and training systems and youth policies can help to tackle these challenges by providing people with the skills required by the labour market and the economy, while allowing them to play an active role in society and to achieve personal fulfilment.

The HOME project held the conference ‘WOW! Europe embraces MOOCs’ in Rome 30 November 2015. It demonstrated the serious uptake on MOOCs in Europe with 30 submitted papers and over 150 registered participants including several Rectors of CRUI (Conference of the Rectors of the Italian Universities), a representative of UNESCO, the Italian Ministry of Education and the European Parliament.

The European Commission has announced a sharpened set of priorities for European cooperation in education and training.
At a time when unemployment remains unacceptably high, and European societies need to urgently address the challenge of social inclusion, the new priorities reinforce joint work at the European level.
The priorities aim to make sure education and training systems promote employability, skills and innovation, increase social mobility and equality, prevent violence and fanaticism and lay the foundations for democratic values and active citizenship.
