Welche »Wider Benefits« haben Weiterbildungsmaßnahmen für Menschen als Individuen, Arbeitnehmende und als Staatsbürger? Zu diesen Fragen präsentiert der Autor empirische Erkenntnisse aus Finnland. Dabei werden die positiven Auswirkungen der Weiterbildung nicht nur aus individueller Perspektive, sondern aus Sicht des engeren sozialen Umfeldes (Familie, Arbeitsplatz, Wohnbezirk) und der Gesellschaft insgesamt beleuchtet.

Mit diesem Band veröffentlicht das Deutsche Institut für Erwachsenenbildung (DIE) die Ergebnisse seiner bundesweiten Anbieterbefragung zum Weiterbildungsangebot im Bereich Alphabetisierung/Grundbildung, den sogenannten "alphamonitor". Ein Ergebnis: Im Vergleich zu 2012 konnte für 2014 eine erhöhte Zahl an Alphabetisierungskursen festgestellt werden. Die Zahl der vom Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge (BAMF) geförderten Kurse war zwar rückläufig, dafür gab es mehr andere Veranstaltungen für nicht deutschsprachige Interessentinnen und Interessenten.

In 2009 the Department of Languages at The Open University, UK, developed LORO (http://loro.open.ac.uk), a repository of Open Educational Resources for language teaching and learning aimed at language teaching professionals. Initially populated with over 300 hours of teaching resources for French, Spanish, German, Italian, Welsh, Chinese and English for Academic Purposes, LORO’s initial function was to provide an efficient and open way of accessing and sharing resources.
