This piece of research explores the learner outcomes and impact of a group of community education centres operating from a distinct model of community education, named in this report as the social action model of community education. All participating centres are members of the AONTAS Community Education Network (CEN) and the hope is to use this research in the CEN’s work to contribute to the visibility and value of community education. A wide variety of benefits to learning were investigated including civic and social engagement, health and progression outcomes.

Ačkoliv jsou celoevropské snahy vylepšit statut vzdělávání dospělých patrné, tak je stále třeba více podpory v této oblasti, tak aby se vzdělávání dospělých stalo atraktivnější, více dostupné a flexibilní. S tímto tématem je spojeno Komuniké z Brugg, které je součástí politiky EU v rámci evropské spolupráce v oblasti odborného vzdělávání a přípravy (VET). V této oblasti byla zveřejněna vize pro VET (klíčová součást vzdělávání dospělých), kde je hlavním záměrem, aby vzdělávání dospělých bylo více atraktivní, přístupné a pružné.

In the Netherlands several organisations and educational institutions support clients who receive an allowance during their reintegration in a paid job. Get to work! can be used to support those clients who struggle with literacy. Get to work! contains educational material specifically designed for functional illiterates looking for a job.

Reading and Writing Foundation in the Netherlands works together with job agency Randstad to find and educate job seekers with literacy difficulties. Job seekers that apply with Randstad Uitzendbureau in Groningen and Zwolle are tested with the Literacy Screener. This test gives an indication of whether or not they are potentially low literate. If so, they are redirected to the appropriate literacy course provider in the area.

According to the Dutch prison section functional illiteracy is apparent among prison inmates. Therefore a pilot has been set up in a number of penitentiaries. The Literacy Screener, an online test, is used to obtain an indication of the literacy level of the inmate. When the test results show potential literacy difficulties the inmate is matched with a volunteer who provides one-on-one literacy coaching and training.

The Literacy Screener is a valid, reliable and effective online tool that quickly indicates whether someone may have reading difficulties. It is designed who work with customers, clients or employees that are potentially low literate. The test takes a maximum of 12-15 minutes. The result shows whether the person most likely has reading difficulties. The Literacy Screener does not provide information about exact reading levels, but rather indicates the need for additional testing.

Language for Life (in Dutch: Taal voor het Leven) is a pilot program executed in 2013-2015 in six Dutch regions. Language for Life gives those who want to improve their basic skills, the chance to do so in their own familiar surroundings. Hundreds of local partners work together in combining the strength of the combination of support from literacy volunteers, professional teachers close by, high quality teaching materials with opportunities to put the lessons learned into practice.

In 2014/2015 the Reading Coalition activates fathers to read to their children with the campaign Fathers for Reading in The Netherlands. Part of the campaign is the reading service, which provides companies a bookcase filled with children’s books and monthly a specially written digital story. Fathers working in the company can lend the books and take them home to read with their children thereby stimulating the reading skills as well as the joy and pleasure in reading among their children and themselves alike.

Healthier through Language (in Dutch: Taal maakt gezonder) is an awareness raising campaign in The Netherlands in collaboration with The Reading & Writing Foundation and VELO (Unified Primary Health Care Organizations). The aim of the campaign is to make primary health care providers aware of the issue and motivated to be involved in its solution. Several methods are combined in the campaign such as a website, a notebook, articles, banners, a waiting room booklet and a poster.

This paper has been prepared for the CLD Managers Scotland Adult Learning Sub-Group. Wishing to explain more clearly how Adult Learning can contribute to early intervention and prevention, they noted (thanks to a paper produced by Glasgow Life on its partnership approach) that the threat of harm and the opportunities to make positive changes often arise in response to triggers and transitions in people’s lives – things like becoming a parent, diagnosis of ill-health, change in employment status, or retirement.

Projekto rezultatas – e. knyga, kuri yra vadovas ir informacijos šaltinis kiekvienam, norinčiam naudoti IKT suaugusiųjų mokymui ar mokymuisi.
