The World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Age-Friendly Cities (AFC) Guide classifies key characteristics of an AFC according to eight domains. Whilst much age-friendly practice and research have focused on domains of the physical environment, those related to the social environment have received less attention. Using a Photovoice methodology within a Community-Based Participatory Research approach, our study draws on photographs, interviews and focus groups among 26 older Liverpool residents (60+ years) to explore how the city promotes respect and social inclusion (a core WHO AFC domain).

Para se alcançar o retorno do investimento efetuado no desenvolvimento de competências dos adultos são necessários dados abrangentes que permitam avaliar o que as pessoas sabem, o que fazem com o que sabem e até que ponto estão equipadas para superarem os desafios do no século XXI. Para ajudar os decisores políticos a obter esses dados, o UIL da UNESCO publicou um novo resumo de políticas focado nas avaliações diretas de competências de adultos.

Este relatório apresenta a experiência de uma entidade que integra diferentes idades no local de trabalho e desmascara vários mitos sobre as diferenças geracionais no desempenho profissional, nas atitudes e na motivação para o trabalho. A publicação também fornece exemplos práticos, com o intuito de promover uma força de trabalho que inclua o fator idade.

A briefing note do Centro Europeu para o Desenvolvimento da Formação Profissional (CEDEFOP) de dezembro intitula-se “Empowering people to cope with change” (“Capacitar as pessoas para lidarem com a mudança”) e demonstra a importância da existência de sinergias fortes, integrando diferentes medidas, para que a aprendizagem dos adultos seja contínua, capacitando-os para a mudança.

Associando-se às comemorações do 75.º aniversário da ONU, a Agência Nacional para a Qualificação e o Ensino Profissional (ANQEP) realizou, em formato digital, no dia 17 de dezembro, uma conferência intitulada “Educação, um direito para todos ao longo da vida, para um futuro sustentável”. The aim of this study was to examine the perspective of school administrators with regard to teachers from different generations. In this study, the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of each generation were examined. This study was conducted as a Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat (SWOT) analysis. The study group consisted of 26 school administrators from the Dilovası district of Kocaeli province, Turkey.

The education of older adults has been considered the fastest growing branch of adulteducation in post-industrial countries and one of the most crucial challenges facing current adult European education (Formosa, 2000). Early research on the learning preferences, motivations and trends of older persons – as well as the impact of learning on the quality of life of older learners – can be traced to the 1950s (Havighurst, 1953), even before the field of educational gerontology was formally established in the 1975 by David Peterson (1976).

This study is grounded in a social-cultural framework that embeds learning in social activities, mediated by cultural tools and occurring through guided participation in the social practice of a particular community. It uses conversation analysis as a tool to examine the structures of the talk-in-interaction of naturally occurring conversations between 11 pairs of older adult (aged between 65 and 92) and undergraduates (aged between 18 and 25) during a 6-week social practice of intergenerational digital gameplay.
