Supporting SMEs’ internationalization in the V4 - Visegrad Strategic Grants

Supporting SMEs’ internationalization in the V4 - Visegrad Strategic Grants

The overarching aim of the project is to create a better ecosystem for businesses within the V4 with special focus on internationalisation of SMEs.

As the SMEs are the backbone of our economy, it is necessary to provide them with special support mechanisms and information facilitating their development and helping them to grow. Although they constitute around 99% of all enterprises in the EU, their share in internationalization is rather limited. There are a couple of reasons for that, for instance SMEs often have less awareness of opportunities and business support mechanisms and organizations in their countries and the EU. Moreover, these companies have also less expertise and lack knowledge on foreign markets, legal provisions and administrative procedures in foreign countries and, therefore, are also less likely to take risk connected to entering new, foreign markets and exporting their services and products abroad. Barriers to internationalization also play an essential role, nevertheless a lot of barriers may be reduced as the result of proper informative and supportive activities.

In order to fully unlock SMEs’ potential in this respect, the University of Economics and Innovation in Lublin (Poland) is willing to implement a project in the area of SMEs internationalization support in the V4 countries. The project will constitute a set of actions based on concrete needs and barriers identified. The core of the project will be educational support with the focus on the most important issues to be taken into consideration in the context of SMEs internationalization in the V4 and neighbouring countries, as well as the complex set of information on support provided to SMEs in every V4 country both at the country and the EU level. This activity will be complimented by other supportive measures, for instance facilitating international cooperation of businesses or knowledge transfer and will be provided by means of a, common for all V4 countries, project portal.
