A step forward in improving the curricula of vocational subjects

In the school year 2018/19 The Požega School of Economics has implemented the Erasmus + project KA102 called Step Forward.

The project facilitated student mobility for the purpose of conducting hands-on training in suitable business organizations in the English province of Devon. 34 students of four educational profiles were sent to 2-week mobility: 13 economists, 8 salesmen, 10 hotel technicians and 3 administrative officers. These are profiles that do not have the opportunity to do proper professional internships in suitable workplaces in the local community,  and therefore do not even have the appropriate experience needed for easy and quick entering the labor market. This mobility project has taken a step forward in addressing this situation.

The project partner was The Training Partnership Ltd of Torquay, a small town off the Channel in England, a tourist region with numerous small and medium-sized businesses. One of the main goals of the project is to encourage entrepreneurship, since such companies can ideally develop in our county and thus enable economic development, reduce numerous socio-economic difficulties, first of all a very high rate of emigration from our region. Therefore, the project is also an example of good practice that enables students to grow both business and personal, and to expand the organizational capacity of the school and further strengthen the European dimension.

The project was realized in two mobilities. The first was happened in January, and twenty-three graduates traveled. In June, after the end of the school year, the second mobility was traveled by the 11 students of the 3rd grade. The students of the vocational subjects who participated in the preparation and implementation of the project traveled with the students. The lessons learned from this project will serve teachers to further their professional development and personal growth. Participating in the project, they have acquired new knowledge of the Europass Mobility documentation, which will be used by students for employment and future mobility, and an ECVET scoring system to evaluate student achievement and progress. Getting to know the new environment and mentors in hands-on teaching has brought teachers new insights into the economy of English Devon, as well as an additional understanding of the Brexit situation and the circumstances it will bring to the economy of Europe.
