The British Institute of Human Rights – Know Your Human Rights Tool

Langue: EN

Posté par NSS UK

The British Institute of Human Rights has released an online tool to provide information about human rights and enable the user to identify human rights violations when they occur. It provides real life examples of people using human rights to better their lives and overcome challenges.

The resource is particularly relevant for those with mental health or mental capacity issues and for those who care for them, including families, carers and formal advocates. It focuses on situations where users would be receiving care or treatment in a doctor’s surgery, hospital, care home and similar settings, although the principles can be applied further afield to education, housing and communicating with the police.

The tool provides two flowcharts to help users to determine if their issue is a human rights one and to take action if a human rights issue is identified. The first flowchart contains seven simple questions that are easy to understand and answer; the second contains five stages for addressing the problem.

Free to use online, the tool can be accessed easily on its own dedicated website.
