Minna Pesonen: ICT in Education Course in Athens

I participated Erasmus+ staff mobility for teaching and training programme during autumn 2017. I wanted to develop and update my skills in pedagogy and technology enhanced learning environments. That is why I chose to participate in ICT in Education course in Athens 18.-22.9.2017.
Course was offered by IDEC training centre in Piraeus. The program of the course was very interesting. It included for example following contents: ICT and learning theories, blended learning models, collaborative and social learning theories,  game- based learning, simulations and augmented reality and MOOCs.
The course gave me very useful experience. Even though I have been working in the field of educational technology and learning theories more than fifteen years, I felt that the discussions with the teacher and the small group from different countries were useful. I heard European perspectives on the contents we were studying and learned some new ideas from the teacher how to implement a course.
Most interesting contents from my point of view were MOOCs and augmented reality. Simulations with 3D glasses and some mobile applications that demonstrated augmented reality, were new experiences for me. I had read a lot about these contents before- now I got experiences about these things. Thus, I felt updated myself about these things.
In summary, the course contents were useful to me. I enjoyed discussions with the teacher and the study group- as well as the cultural programme that was included to the course.
