Quick Reads

The Quick Reads adult literacy scheme works with bestselling authors each year to produce six short and engaging books for adult readers. Quick Reads was launched in 2006 by The Reading Agency and has distributed over 4.8 million copies of more than 100 titles.

1 in 6 adults struggle to read and 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health issue at some point in their lives.

Our work tackles adult literacy, mental health and social isolation through the power of reading.

After securing three more years of funding, the titles on the 2020 list were announced in February. These books are now available for just £1 at bookshops and are free to borrow from libraries.

Quick Reads can be utilised as part of your organisation's Reading Ahead scheme. This programme is designed to help young people and adults improve their reading skills and develop a love of reading. You can read the full evaluation report from 2017/18 for more information on research and outcomes.

Quick Reads works with public libraries, prisons, colleges, hospitals, trade unions, and adult learning organisations to ensure these books are accessed by those who may find reading difficult. Quick Reads are also produced in Welsh.
