DEEP DEMOCRACY IN A WORLD OF DIVIDES: Shifting Consciousness in Politics, Economy, Ecology and Relationships

The Worldwork seminar is an experiential training seminar in conflict work, facilitation and community building, facilitated by an international team of process-oriented facilitators. It provides a unique opportunity for people from around the world to come together in a powerful forum for focusing on and working with social, environmental, and political issues using group process, relationship and innerwork skills. By bringing awareness to the many parts and dimensions of experiences in any conflict, opportunities emerge to transform communities. Between three to five hundred people, from thirty to forty countries, participate in these six to ten day gatherings. These days include theoretical and experiential training in large group settings, where a variety of issues relevant to the group and the world are processed. Small groups meet daily to practice specific training exercises and process group issues in a more intimate environment. Relationship work and inner work are integral aspects of worldwork methodology. Participants may attend one-to-one personal development sessions to focus on individual issues that might arise. Sessions are included in the price of tuition. Special interest groups have an opportunity for coalition building and networking. Social awareness and educational groups are also a cohesive part of the program.

The handbook was published as part of the 'Library as a Meeting Place For Many Cultures' project, implemented by the Information Society Development Foundation in 2013-2014. It presents a multicultural library model along with a step-by-step implementation guide, as well as inspiring examples of good practices from Polish and Norwegian libraries.

Dabartinės migrantų krizės kontekste akcentuotas gyvybiškai svarbus suaugusiųjų švietimo vaidmuo remiant migrantų integraciją ir įgūdžių vystymą visoje Europos Sąjungoje.

Siekdama paremti vykstančias diskusijas ir debatus šia tema, EPALE balandžio 25–29 dienomis organizuoja migrantų švietimo savaitę.

The idea to create the comparative report on migrant education in the Baltic States was suggested by Eve Magi, senior analyst of Praxis Center for Policy Studies of Estonia at the end of 2013. She was joined by Lithuanian Public Policy and Management Institute researcher Hanna Siarova and a representative from Latvia Liesma Ose (Global Development Institute). As a result of the co-operation Liesma Ose made the presentation entitled Comparative Assessment of the Strategies and Legislation concerning the integration of migrants in education in the Baltic States.

Ideja veidot Baltijas valstu imigrantu izglītības salīdzinošu ziņojumu radās Igaunijas sabiedriskās politikas centra PRAXIS vecākajai pētniecei Evei Magi 2013. gada nogalē. Viņai pievienojās Lietuvas PPMI ( Public Policy and Management Institute) līdzstrādniece Hanna Siarova un Latvijas pārstāve Liesma Ose ( Globālās attīstības institūts). Sadarbībā tapa Liesmas Oses prezentācija: Baltijas valstu imigrantu integrācijas likumdošana un stratēģijas -- salīdzinošs izvērtējums.

The Directorate for Lifelong Learning and Early School Leavers organised Lifelong Learning Cafe sessions for adult educators and trainers. The event focused on adult learning themes tackled in recent months on the Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe (EPALE).  Participants were encouraged to engage in collaborative dialogues in a cafe set-up following the World Cafe format. The event was held on Thursday, 5 May between 3pm and 5pm, at the Lifelong Learning Centre, Msida, Malta.

The idea of this comparative, critical and constructive study also belongs to Eve Magi, and it has been elaborated together with Liesma Ose and Hanna Siarova within SIRIUS, the European Policy Network on the education of children and young people with a migrant background, which brought together policy-makers, academic community and NGO activists (2012-2014). The study and policy recommendations issued in English were created in 2014.

The 7th conference of the ESREA network ELOA

Currently Europe is facing a highly turbulent confrontation of values, cultural influences and challenges, connected with diverse identities and ways of living in a partly ‘united’ EU space. Besides its own unsolved dilemmas regarding confrontations between mixtures of cultures and nations in Europe, it has lately also been facing an intensive set of immigration challenges and opportunities from outside Europe, which are not generally accepted as a constitutive part of European culture.

Toolkit 6: European perspectives on museum objects. Selected examples on the Change of Perspective  The goal of the EMEE project is to uncover the implicit and often hidden European dimension of local museum objects and to visualize the intertwined character of local, regional, national, European, and trans-European layers of historical meanings of museum objects. This approach requires the practice of the Change of Perspective in all areas covered by the five EMEE toolkits. Furthermore, it demands the combination and linking of these five facets.

Toolkit 5: Social Web and Interaction. Social media technologies for European national and regional museums The Toolkit shows that the social web can be used not only for public relations but also for interaction (museum with visitors, museum with non-visitors, visitors among themselves, museum with other institutions). With this Toolkit, visitors and other interested persons will be given a possibility to get involved with the museum’s topics, to discuss, to exchange ideas, to reflect on exhibitions, etc.

Toolkit 4: Synaesthetic translation of perspectives. Scenography - A Sketchbook The Toolkit offers ideas how to present different perspectives not only as text but by means of designing the space, including ideas how to use music, light or even scent. It translates perspectives into other ‘languages’ and allows visitor participation.

Further toolkits are:

Toolkit 3: Bridging the gap. Activation, participation and role modification The Toolkit deals with the development of different levels of the participation and activation of the visitor (for example hands-on, minds-on, user-generated exhibitions, guided tours conceptualized in the form of a dialogue, participation of different focus groups in the museum work, etc.). It develops programmes to encourage non-visitor groups to get to know the museum’s world. It also provides best practice examples with a focus on trans-regional/European topics.

In the last 20 years the ethnical map of Romania had significant changes which include the appearance of new minority groups. Bucharest, a city with too little data to be considered cosmopolitan, houses communities of different foreigners, from British and Italian to Chinese, Lebanese, Turkish and Indian. The groups of immigrants build and negotiate in different ways their social spaces in the urban weave of Bucharest and their presence is currently weakly documented from administrative point of view, occasionally through TV reports, but not from a socio-cultural point of view.
