The continuous professional development of teachers and trainers in non-formal adult education has been gaining importance in the past few years in Macedonia.

Da bi obrazovanje odraslih bilo djelotvorno, neophodno je da stvara znanje, da ima benefite od novih naučnih otkrića i inovacija koje rezultiraju iz istih, i da stoga ostane savremeno.

“Life-long learning”, “continuous education”, “learning to learn”, “learning organization” are the terms we have been encountering not only in a business environment, expert and scientific circles, but also in the every-day life.

In order for adult education to be effective, it is necessary to be able to produce knowledge, to benefit from new scientific discoveries and innovations resulting from them, and therefore to remain contemporary. The education given to adults should have a positive effect on the individual's life, encourage the application and respond to the reasons and why in their minds. Adults have more expectations for more realistic, concrete solutions than children and young people. The training given to them should be appropriate to their needs.

At the Upskilling Pathways conference, I was lucky to attend a morning workshop delivered by Naomi Clayton and Lubomira Chirmiciu, which explored devolution to the city-regions. Focus was given to the different approaches that have been used in the regions, as well as a succinct commitment to providing better support for adult learning activities.
