Wiki on Digital Literacy - Now online!

Reading time around four minutes - Read, like, comment!

Colleagues from organisations in four countries developed a wiki on technical, societal and political dimensions of the digitalisation. It is now online! The wiki results from the Strategic Partnership “Empowering Digital Literacy in a Transforming World” (Erasmus+). The contributions were made by partners from the Spanish organisation AMEFE, the public body CJRAE Vrancea in Romania, the cooperative COOPETIC in France and the coordinating organisation weltgewandt. Institut für interkulturelle politische Bildung e.V. in Berlin. The wiki was implemented by Dr. Isabelle Böhnke of the COOPETIC partner organisation.

The current transformation of our societies is also characterised by the digitalisation of work, production, communication and lifestyle. This is shown by the way the current pandemic is being dealt with. The numerous online meetings, webinars, e-learning activities for pupils and students, discussions about tracing apps and much more triggered a 'digital push'. But what is meant by digitalisation? Do we know what artificial intelligence is all about when the conversation comes up? What is 3D printing? Why are digital cookies not to be confused with harmless 'analog' ones? How do I recognise cyberbullying, and how can I counter it? What opportunities does online collaboration offer? And how did it all start?

The consortium offers several considerations in this regard. The contributions inform about the difference between "digitisation" and "digitalisation", the history of digitalisation, artificial intelligence, work 4.0, cyber-bullying, big data, the current structural change of the public sphere, the EU data protection regulation and means of online cooperation. The thematic presentations were supplemented by descriptions of formal and non-formal methods. These exercises have been tested together in two five-day workshops and can be applied in adult education.

The wiki emerged from a two-year "exchange of good practice" in which didactic questions of addressing aspects of digitalisation in analogue and digital form were on the focus. It is addressed to adult educators, especially those working with non-privileged groups. Interested citizens are also invited to learn about the topics.

All contributions are written in an easy English so that they can be read by as many people as possible.

The authors are looking forward to your comments!

Further information on the cooperation can be found on the multilingual project website and the Facebook page.
