Five principal drivers underpin the new policy on skills development of employees in the workforce.

(i) Supporting enhanced productivity in Irish SMEs

(ii) Driving effective regional development

(iii) Responding to the changing nature of jobs and skills requirements

(iv) Meeting the skills development needs of the target groups

(v) Supporting development of ‘soft skills
