Prison education may have a transformative effect on participants' life after prison

A Norwegian qualitative study, conducted by Christin Tønseth and Ragnhild Bergsland, concludes that prison education has an effect on ex-prisoners’ life after release from prison.

 

The formal upper secondary education that many persons participated in when they were in prison, has changed their self-esteem, identity, motivation and attitudes radically.

Thank you for your post. I agree wholeheartedly. Most people would assume that prisoners are reluctant/unwilling to even try, let alone complete their studies.
In our work in minimun-security prison in my hometown, however, we have seen that 100% of those people are quite interested in doing whataever it takes to get back into the society. 
Everyone desreves a second chance. These inmates are not violents, and their lives always changed after completing their school while serving their sentences. As Kafka said: "Most people are not evil-doers, they are sleepwalkers." If you learn something from a mistake, it is no longer a mistake, it is a lesson.
