On Saturday 24th August 2019, I am Team GB will be organising the nation’s biggest sports day, sponsored by Toyota. The event aims to make communities more active and get them involved in sports by using the power of the Olympics and inspiring people. Volunteers called I am Team GB Games Makers will be providing free activities across the nation which will be both fun and engaging.
Games are hugely varied and could include anything from a walk in the countryside or a sea kayaking session to a rugby or football tournament – the unified goal is simply to get people moving. There will be activities for all ages and private games, perhaps for close family and friends, will also be possible.
The best way to get involved is to become a games maker yourself! You will be able to organise the sports activity of your choice, receive an official I am Team GB Games Maker t-shirt and a digital pack to help you organise your event. The pack includes posters, top tips for engagement and much more. There is no pressure in terms of the numbers of people involved in the game – the group can be as big or small as you like. Becoming a Games Maker will help you to build leadership skills, give you a huge sense of pride and achievement, and as athletes will be visiting some of the games across the country, may even provide you with the opportunity to meet a sports hero!
Whether you are keen to get involved as a Games Maker or simply take part in one of the activities being organised, you are sure to give your health and wellbeing a boost. Be on the lookout for activities in your local community!
