  • How to Reduce the Impact of Training on the... Environment?

    The ecological footprint of a training was discussed at the Estonias 5th trainers unconference. The participants found that beacause it's easy to reach meny target groups in the training sector, it's important to think thoroughly about how to act more sustanably when making a trining.

The Belgian EPALE support services are happy to invite you to their 4th celebration of World Teachers' Day. The 2019 edition will focus on Adult Learning in the workplace. Join us on October 4th in Brussels!

The Carmichael Mentor scheme is for CEOs and managers of nonprofit organisations, putting them in contact with mentors with backgrounds in a range of sector such as large corporate, SME, public sector and the nonprofit sector who will provide confidential one-to-one advice and guidance.

The closing date for applications is by 5pm, Friday, 29th of March 2019.

In February, the Žena na prekretnici (Women at the Crossroads) Association is starting a new cycle of workshops intended for the unemployed women over 45. The workshops are one of the activities of this Association aimed at helping and empowering women in a sensitive age to re-engage socially and economically.

Nilufer Public Education Center’s Leather Design and Decorative Wooden Painting course attendees coopetared with the parents of Meliha Cemal Bagci Secondary School students. Our instructor has her students produce leather purses, wallets and decorated wooden tray for charity sale which was for the benefit of refugee children and poor children studying at Meliha Cemal Bağcı Secondary school. All of our course attendees participated in this project willingly and voluntarily.

On the basis of the principle of education for all persons in the lifelong learning process, teams were formed from participants at different levels of society and from disabled people in care centers. Disadvantaged individuals with mental disabilities were involved in using waste materials for shelter construction for animals. These work teams also contributed to raising awareness of the areas where the waste materials they use can be recycled.

In the settlements where this marginalized population is predominantly located, the school staff regularly visits Roma households and animates potential students. Those who are not directly accessible - through the "capillary" communication network in the settlement, are informed of the benefits of continuing their education and they, on their own, enroll in a functional elementary adult education program.

Career guidance, vocational guidance and guidance counselling are expected to help the individual make meaningful and successful choices, decisions and solutions regarding their career, education and training.

Ohjaamo guidance centres are low-threshold service points that form a new kind of multidisciplinary guidance service for young people under 30 years of age in Finland. The guidance centres support young people in life management skills and promote their engagement in training, education and working life by offering information, counselling and guidance services.

Work-based basic education (known as TEPPO, an acronym for the Finnish concept) is a new instructional approach adopted by the City of Vantaa, which places great value on workplaces as learning environments. TEPPO has quickly gained popularity also among pupils with an immigrant background and their families. Could the approach be applied in adult education?

The HOPE project was created following the dismantling of the ”jungle” in Calais in 2017. It was initiated by Pascale Gérard, Director of the Department of Social Inclusion in AFPA, who leads the program today.  The HOPE project: accommodation and career guidance, combines a first phase of learning French in a professional context with a second phase in the form of a professional training contract.

Ruth Baker is EU Project Officer with Ballymun Job Centre in Ballymun, Dublin 11. The Centre uses Erasmus+ Vocational Education and Training funding to collaborate with European partners.  Their projects focus on Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices. In this blog Ruth talks about the challenges and benefits of working on these Erasmus+ VET KA2 Strategic Partnership projects.

In the scope of the activities of EPALE National Support Team and National Euroguidance Network Centre, the Foundation Tempus in Serbia hosted a two-day training course named Coping with helplessness: How to use career guidance and counseling to empower adults from vulnerable groups, which will be held in Belgrade from 27 to 28 November 2018.

The National Centre for Guidance in Education (NCGE)  and Euroguidance Ireland host regular study visits with the aim of supporting the sharing of best practice in guidance among practitioners and other relevant professionals.

Between the 19th and 21st February 2019,  NCGE / Euroguidance Ireland hosted a study visit in Dublin with representatives from Belgium (Flanders), Czech Republic, Luxembourg and Romania.

EPALE National Support Service issues an electronic magazine each month tied to the thematic focus on EPALE. The magazine contains a selection of most read blogs on the platform translated into Serbian and other articles relevant to adult education in Serbia and Europe.

In accordance with the EPALE monthly focus the magazine in November 2018 dealt with Adult learning in career development.

In accordance with the EPALE monthly focus the magazine in April 2018 dealt with Outreach and guidance in adult learning.

Since 2012, the French coordination of EAAL has been conducting action-research work on the issue of transverse skills.. The aim is to equip professionals in their roles of guidance, social and professional integration with low skilled adults. The notion of “transverse” refers here to a set of skills that can be mobilized in various professional situations. They range in 5 dimensions: organization/ adaptability and autonomy/ sociability/ communication/ initiative and participation.

Career guidance and counselling (CGC) is increasingly being recognised as an important tool in education and employment policy, one that can support and facilitate lifelong learning. The contemporary environment requires individuals to develop their careers in a more flexible and less predictable way than previously, with lifelong mobility between education and the labour market, between employers and vocations.

Over the last ten years, Education Matters Yearbook has established itself as the indispensable guide to the world of education in Ireland, bridging the gap between practitioners, managers, researchers and policy-makers. Published each December, the Yearbook informs, guides and inspires educationalists across all sectors to reflect on their goals and become more successful in their profession.
