In today’s rapidly developing world, where digitisation and technology stand at the forefront of how we communicate, use services and complete everyday tasks, our ability to confidently and safely use the internet and technology is  vital to ensure our participation in our communities and our ability to find employment.
 

Approaches to integration of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in schools vary widely in Europe. In particular, the teaching language to be used with newly-arrived migrant pupils can be a controversial topic. Should they learn only the host country language or should they be encouraged to keep their mother tongue?

The Foundation Tempus announces that the European Language Label 2019 Call is open for entries. The European Language Label (ELL) is an award whose aim is to highlight and reward innovative and creative initiatives in the field of teaching and learning languages. It also functions as a stimulus to uncover and disseminate results of such initiatives, while promoting public interest in improving language skills. The deadline for submission is 31 May 2019.

The project ‘WelComm 2 Explore Europe: Integrated language and cultural learning at early age’ uses regional heritage across Europe and creates multimedia materials for children to help them learn more about the history, nature and culture of their new homeland.

The Cultural Counsellor from the French Embassy in Malta, Elisabeth du Breil de Pontbriand, visited the Lifelong Learning Centre in Msida on 5th February 2018. During her visit, she met with the Ministry for Education and Employment Education Officer, Mandy Mifsud and Tanya Agius, the Centre Administrator, who discussed possible ways of collaboration between the French Embassy, the adult educators and adult learners at the Centre.

 

    According to WHO, there are more than 360 million people with disabling hearing loss over the world, and 32 million of these are children and this number is increasing day by day and by 2050 it is estimated tha one in every ten will have this problem. In Turkey there are about 2,2 million deaf and dumb people. These people have difficulty in communicating, and expressing themselves  and understanding the others especially  in public places like hospitals, police stations etc... so the people working in such place must acquire sign language.

Linguacuisine is an app created by an Erasmus+ project that allows people to create and share recipes, in turn allowing them to build a variety of skills, in particular cultural awareness and language skills. In celebration of the success of the project, they are holding the LinguaChef competition, which will provide the winner with a £200 cash prize and a LinguaChef Gold Certificate.

As a language teacher I have always considered CPD as a crucial element of my professional life. I have constantly been on the lookout for opportunities for training where I can develop linguistically, update my methodology and shape my attitude towards teaching. Bell Teacher Training Campus seems to be the place that can satisfy all my expectations.

Many teachers can take advantage of a huge variety of summer school courses on offer. Summer schools are typically considered to be for children on holiday from school, but most colleges and universities open their doors to adult learners when their regular students are away for the summer. The choice of subject areas is vast and there is even the possibility of approaching institutions and enquiring about designing and delivering a completely new course that is not currently part of their programme.

Adult Education Centre in Ormož (Slovenia) is involved in Erasmus +,  KA1 project entitled as "I Want More!". Within the framework of the project, which is aimed primarily at raising the competencies of our employees, we planned three mobilities. In this blog post you can read about our job shadowing activity in Skopje. 

My goal was to get to exchange experiences with colleagues around Europe. As an adult education trainer from KSL Study Centre, I also wanted to improve myself and get new perspective to the main topic of the course: Communication Skills and Public Speaking.

The course focuses on how you can apply information and communication technology in the classroom. Many teachers are not aware of how many opportunities a digital classroom offers them. This course enables teachers to learn how to use different tools from the online world in their day to day practice. Have you heard of Socrative? How about Khan Academy or Edmodo? Those are all tools that you can easily use in your classroom! What is most important, students are much more engaged in digital classrooms than in ordinary ones!

These courses provide news skills and innovative methods to help teachers encourage their students to reach their full potential and purchase their studies (Preventing early school leaving). Through this course, participants will acquire new skills and tools to help them overcome the challenges they will encounter in the classroom.  

This is an Erasmus+ funded project which aims to design and implement effective training tools for enhancing key skills and competences of (a) highly-skilled refugees and (b) the language teachers who work with them, and so enhance the employability and societal integration of skilled refugees.

Artykuł podsumowujący badanie, w którym uczestniczyły starsze osoby dorosłe z Polski (w wieku 55-68 lat), rozpoczynające naukę angielskiego. W badaniu, przeprowadzonym metodą wywiadu narracyjnego, uczestnicy opisywali swoją motywację, napotykane trudności i wyzwania, strategie nauki, postrzegane problemy związane z wiekiem oraz rekomendacje dotyczące procesu nauczania.

EPALE Ireland and Léargas hosted regional workshops on 'Drama for Adult Language Learning', facilitated by Miriam Stewart. Miriam’s presentation from the workshops, ‘Embodied Language’, focuses on using drama as a tool for language acquisition. If you are interested in the topic, the presentation includes a number of different references that you can explore further.

This resource was created by the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership ‘We Are One’ – Altogether Better. It is an e-inventory focusing on the discrimination of minorities in Europe, considering the reasons behind discrimination and what support can be offered to improve the experiences of minority groups. The partner countries include the UK, Spain, Italy and Sweden.

A language passport is a useful tool for self-assessment of language skills and qualifications in Serbian. It is useful for self-assessment during career guidance activities and/or language learning activities.  

 

 

This paper offers a summative review of the functions of literary text as a cultural component of foreign language teaching, with a focus on French language textbook materials aimed at adolescents and adults, and with respect to the common traits with adult education/teaching. It is shown that French– and Yugoslavian-authored textbooks dating from the mid-20th century imply a didactic/educational aim of handling literary texts, in other words, an elitist and populist view of culture.
