EPALE

Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe

E-learning

The activities of the project "Compare Digital curricula for HEalth and Social Care Education" enabled 4 organizations from 3 partner countries to meet, compare and discuss the different digital curricula they use within their courses. The difference in the level of development of the different organizations, helped partners share experience and apply suitable content in their organizations.

In many countries, domestic work suffers from insufficient regulation and recognition. In 2010, the ILO published the report “Decent work for domestic workers” to set standards “in response to the long-standing perception of domestic work as a form of “women’s work” that does not require any real skills, qualifications or training”. Indeed, the ILO asserted “the value of domestic work to both the families and the workers, (…) and the economy as a whole”. At EU level, the EU Parliament resolution 28th April 2016 encouraged member states to protect the rights of these workers.

The aim of the project financed by Erasmus programme (KA2)  is to develop an innovative and effective method to help children improve their literacy skills, especially taking into account multilingual children, who use one language at home and another language at school. It does so by combining the know-how of the partnership in the fields of multilingual education, programming and publishing, hereby taking a multidisciplinary approach and integrating the teaching of several basic skills.

Europe is getting older. Both the Commission and the European Council acknowledge that the impact of demographic ageing on European social models calls for a strong response. The changes related to aging are affecting fundamental aspects for the wellbeing and dignity of older people, which implies the need of a new strategy on the traditional model of long term care in European countries.

Safe Climbing is an Erasmus+ project that aimed to increase safety for people that work with chainsaws and climbing in trees as well as producing quality study material for climbing courses. The countries involved in the project where Iceland, Denmark and Slovenia.

Thanks to the funding from Erasmus+ sub-programme of Support for Policy Reform, within the action of Social inclusion through education, training and youth a new e-learning platform for educators is in its finishing state. This platform will offer educators a complete curriculum for implementing philosophical inquiry in classrooms, modules for teaching about diversity and global issues as well as a media library with a collection of approaches in different countries and materials in different languages.

Digital learning certificate

Vicki Liogier from ETF and Ben Charles from the Global Learning Skills Partnership delivered the Digital Skills for Adult Educators workshop at the Upskilling Pathways Conference 2019. Both presenters provided information on their organisations and projects, discussed the need for digital skills to be harnessed by education staff both for their own development and the development of their learners, and emphasised the need for institutions and originations to develop effective digital frameworks to encourage adequate skills development.

Mobile learning is recognized by many researchers as an important component of learning in the future, even as an integral part of the educational process. Some of the features of mobile learning and methodological problems in lifelong learning allow this pair to be combined to reveal the ideal and fulfill the vision of lifelong learning.

Delegates enjoy lunch and network at the conference

At the EPALE UK and Learning and Work Institute joint conference, I was lucky enough to attend a highly engaging and informative workshop delivered by Cerian Ayres, with input from James Maltby. The workshop explored dual professionalism, sustainable curricula and sustainable technology in vocational education, and how this relates to the need to upskill and develop the education workforce.

“Four elements”, an Erasmus K2 project is a study about the material side of four elements -earth, water, fire, air- and imagery attached to them. Project partners from six European countries are being interested in the collective common representations behind the four elements as they appear in myths, legends and tales.

At Southern Regional College (SRC), we have spent decades building on what came before and bring that experience forward to meet the challenges of the present. An international two-year partnership with several other EU countries allowed for the development of an online equality and diversity programme supporting migrant, refugee and asylum seeker communities.

Příručka je vícejazyčná a je výsledkem mezinárodního projektu na podporu zapojení digitálních technologií do vzdělávání dospělých “Stepping Up to Technology in Adult Education towards Awareness, Assessment and Access”.

Publikace je také v angličtině. Pokud bude v budoucnosti i český překlad, budeme vás informovat na stránkách EPALE.

The GVETS online training was created to provide a free access multidisciplinary capacity building program for social workers and other professionals who work with migrant children, in order to strengthen their role in the protection of children. The training covers the topics of migration, child protection, crisis management, guidance, critical social work, social worker soft skills and digital skills. The entire training is available in English, and selected parts are available in partners' local languages (Hungarian, Italian, Greek, Luthuanian, Spanish, Portuguese)

In addition to GLAT Workshop Syllabus and Materials, created during the Erasmus+ project GLAT (2017-1-HR01-KA201-035362), Guide for Teachers was prepared to help teachers in the process of designing innovative learning activities for the development of algorithmic thinking.

Learning scenarios have been prepared by the teachers – participants of the GLAT education, during the Erasmus+ project (2017-1-HR01-KA201-035362). Scenarios include activities for development of algorithmic thinking using modern pedagogical methods and appropriate digital content and tools.

The scenarios are accompanied by additional materials, such as links to online content or worksheets for unplugged activities.

The objective of this paper is to present the different possibilities for the application of modern web 2.0 tools in e-learning. The paper starts by explaining and defining the basic concepts of nonformal learning and e-learning 2.0, going on to explain nonformal learning mediated by technologies. It concludes with an explication of the concept of personal learning environments as a proposal for a contemporary solution for e-learning. An overview is also given of the most commonly-used 2.0 tools, along with the implications for their use in modern education.

In brief:

  • For informal carers and focused on Alzheimer
  • Short, blended, micro-learning- based: 20 hours= 16h face to face / 4h eLearning
  • Planned for about 6 weeks
  • Available in 4 languages (EN/FR/ES/DE)
  • Free of charge and with an open license (Creative Common 4.0 allowing further changes if non commercial use and distributed under the same license

On the basis of the Carer+ Digital Competence Framework, a complete programme structure was developed, containing a total of 5 interrelated modules organised under 3 themes:

  • Foundational skills
  • Managing social care with ITCs
  • Providing home care through ICTs.

The Virtual Learning Environement was created by using Drupal Commons and Moodle 2.5: 5 platforms were created: an original one in English and 4 for the piloting partners in their local languages (France, Italy, Latvia, Romania and Spain).

The main purpose of this study is to clarify for all partner countries (Austria, France, Germany, Spain), which rollout perspectives exist for the TRACK blended learning offer (combining online and face-to-face sessions) and how the training can be promoted and
be made available to the target group.

In the framework of the project Erasmus+ PRODOME, the study "The state of the art of domestic work in Europe" (deliverable 1) has been produced, based on desk and field research involving 54 experts and 109 domestic housekeepers via semi-directive interviews, a Delphi exercise and questionnaires.

The main findings are the following ones:
