Right now, we are seeing the first phase in a transition towards digital learning in several places – forced upon us by the coronavirus crisis. And what we can see is analogue and ordinary teaching methods being applied directly in a kind of digital ditto. That’s all well and good for now, but it won’t work in the longer term if e-learning is to function as a high-quality and enriching tool for both teachers and participants.

Els Van Raemdonck is an inspector of education at the Flemish Education Inspectorate in Belgium and is responsible for the theme group of inspectors for adult education. Due to the Covid19 crisis, the inspectors suspended all inspections to give the centers breathing space for their core tasks. All directors of the adult education centers and the centers for adult basic education received a call to find oud their needs and to support them in these difficult times.

The state-run Yunus Emre Institute, which is charged with promoting Turkish language and culture around the globe, aims to provide education for up to 1 million distance learners as part of its online Turkish language program, the agency's president said.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, professor Şeref Ateş said the program offers courses in the Turkish language in four different languages and five proficiency levels.

Ateş explained that, given the vital role played by technology in modern language learning, the group launched the program in 2017 free of charge.
