Bojana is a music teacher. This period has brought together the knowledge of those who know what they do and those who do not. People had to come up with the solutions by learning and working together. During this time, it has been necessary to acquire the knowledge needed to use modern technologies so that the contents can be made accessible to children, with the support and willingness of teachers and parents.

Innovativeness came as a next level of creativity used through the development of activities adjusted to our students, many of whom live trapped in a vicious circle of illiteracy, poverty, unemployment and a lack of a permanent place of residence, often accompanied by cultural and traditional limitations or some unfortunate circumstances (socially disadvantaged families, domestic violence, crime). In the new circumstances, she did not have much time to prepare and analyse different approaches – she had to act right away.

As a result of learning theories and developing technologies, the change of learning and teaching approach showed us that as learning is individualized, it may be performed not only in class but in anywhere and everywhere. These kind of e-learning environments became more common. However, e-learning applications have disadvantages, and these disadvantages need to be covered with face-to-face education environments, thus, blended learning approach emerges as a requirement at this point. While implementing blended learning, which is appreciated by higher education institutionsandused to fulfill the needs of individuals, using appropriate learning strategies for learners at the right time is a necessity

Brid is an adult educator working with mature learners. She found it very difficult to shift from face-to-face pedagogy to online, but she was determined to keep it critical even within the limits of the virtual learning environment. The major change for her was to provide a lot of content through her voice, which is completely alien for her, as she prefers to use groupwork, discussion and critical questions in her practice. Her students kindly tolerated her fumbles and stumbles with humour and tolerance, she says!

Developed literacy, numeracy and digital skills are closely related to active engagement in democratic life, to citizenship and the ability to exercise judgment critically & independently. A low level of such competences can leave a person at a disadvantage not only in the labour market (around 90% of jobs are estimated to need at least some level of digital skills in the EU) but also in society.

The measures implemented in order to slow down the spread of the virus have brought about a process of change in the field of adult education. Almost overnight, this has led to the long-awaited digital explosion becoming an integral part of our lives. A lot of people now work, negotiate, study and teach from home. A few months ago, there were only a handful of examples of digital tools being used in adult education.

COVID-19 is going to have lasting effects on the economy, which rendered the spread of sound financial knowledge even more crucial, enabling individuals to better manage their personal and professional finances. Rather than viewing this pandemic as a dead-end to their work, Marija Elena and her colleagues are therefore perceiving this as an opportunity to further digitalise their initiatives, whilst making sure that this is in line with the needs and demands of their target audiences.

During this time of crisis, education will not be business-as-usual, and EdTech alone cannot close the learning gap. It will be dedicated teachers and resilient educators who will ensure learning doesn’t stop — but they could be helped by the right EdTech tools. The digital divide means that internet and mobile network access varies greatly in middle- and low-income countries. Governments can provide immediate support by informing teachers about simple grassroots platforms where they can share their own EdTech solutions.
