This question was put to training professionals by the EPALE France team during the period of lockdown that affected Europe and the world for several weeks. With distance learning becoming essential in all support and training measures, how can we avoid accentuating the digital divide?

Over one week, a “Mentimeter” space was made available to training professionals, allowing them to freely testify about their experiences.

UPI – Žalec Adult Education Institution from Slovenia is a modern adult education centre. Since 2018, we have been working towards ensuring a systematic and high-quality introduction of digital tools or combined learning, which is why our transfer to e-learning was easier than it would have been otherwise.

The onTrain project "Online training: the treasure within", is inspired by the Jacques Delors report for UNESCO "Learning: the treasure within". This is an Erasmus+ project of two years duration, had its beginning in November 2018 and will end in October 2020, where 5 universities and institutions of adult education from Europe participate: Spain, Italy, Germany, Finland and Romania. This project will develop an educational material aimed at trainers, in addition to online educational tools that will be useful to promote social learning.

Mariadaniela teaches Humanities and her specialty is School Dispersion. The situation of students not being able to attend school because of the lockdown measures was managed by enhancing distance learning. At her school they were able to use this situation as an opportunity to experiment with new teaching strategies, to use platforms, video lessons, virtual classes and online working groups, and to promote dialogue between teachers and students.

Last week, the third staff training of Key-Co System project should have taken place in Palermo. Staff of partner organizations would have gathered in Sicily from Spain, Germany and Greece to take part in a very inspiring experience led by the members of Giocherenda, an artistic collective of young migrants come to Italy from Africa, and with the participation of Massimiliano Schirinzi, teacher at the University of Palermo.

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 forced us to change all plans and to postpone this training, but we think that behind this occurrence there is a hidden chance.

"With rapid changes in information and communication technologies, it is no longer sufficient for language teachers and pre-service teachers (PTs) to know how to use existing digital tools. They also need to be digitally literate in order to critically evaluate such tools and platforms for safe, wise, and productive use. Within a qualitative approach, this study investigated Turkish PTs’ conceptualisation of digital literacy. This included an exploration of how PTs defined this concept, what kind of tools they used, and for which purposes they preferred to use digital tools.

However, teachers may face challenges when introducing e-exams in a higher education context. This paper describes what kinds of challenges teachers may face when introducing e-exams, based on experiences in Turku University of Applied Sciences (TUAS) where e-exams have been used since 2012.
