Work and Language - an Interplay
This article describes how the teacher and the learners of a second language together can collect, analyse, explore and use language from the learners’ workplaces, and how the teacher can help the learners to further develop their new skills when back in the work place. Through examples and theory, the article conveys different approaches to creating such an interplay between what is happening in the classroom, and the learners’ experiences and learning opportunities in the workplace or work placement .
The article is largely based on experiences gained in a development project carried out by Michael Svendsen Pedersen in collaboration with four adult education centres of varying sizes in different locations in Norway - under the auspices of Skills Norway.
