National Strategic Plan of the Republic of Cyprus for Lifelong Learning 2014-2020

Summary

This Report presents the National Strategic Plan of the Republic of Cyprus for Lifelong Learning for the period 2014 – 2020. The National Strategic Plan for LLL covers the development of all types of learning (formal, non-formal and informal).

The Report has been prepared by the Directorate General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance, the Human Resource Development Authority of Cyprus and the Cyprus Productivity Centre. Upon its completion, a draft was forwarded to all the involved social partners for comments and suggestions, which have been incorporated into the final version.

The National Strategic Plan for LLL 2014-2020 was approved by the Council of Ministers on 18th June 2014.

The National Strategic Plan identifies the strategic objectives/priority axes and specifies the categories of actions which will be put forward by the Republic of Cyprus regarding Lifelong Learning. The four priority axes of the National Strategic Plan are the following:

  • Enhancement of access to/participation in LLL and recognition of its outcomes
  • Improvement of the quality and efficiency of Education and Training
  • Promotion of research and development in order to support LLL
  • Improvement of employability (increase in the number of individuals who are integrated/reintegrated in the labour market).

The implementation of the National Strategic Plan for LLL is based on the assumption of shared responsibility by all stakeholders (Government and Social Partners). The National Strategic Plan is envisaged to contribute to the implementation of the common European goals in the fields of Education and Training.
