Law in everyday life: discover our new student textbook!
Did you know there are laws and regulations that influence your daily life, even in simple areas like the music you listen to or the chair you sit on?
Why This Textbook?
You’ve probably heard about laws and regulations, maybe even learned a bit about them in school. However, it’s rare for these topics to be at the forefront of your daily concerns, which is even more typical for young people. Nevertheless, it's crucial to become familiar with these fundamental aspects of societal life from an early age.
Many think that laws, drafted in distant parliamentary offices, don’t directly concern them. The reality is quite different. This is why we prepared this guide: to show how laws and regulations affect every member of the community.
Objectives of the Textbook
Our hope is that this guide will encourage middle and high school students to take an interest in what happens in their community and understand the importance of laws and citizen participation in their creation. One day, they might be involved in important processes such as elections or referendums. Therefore, being an informed citizen is essential.
A basic understanding of laws and regulations can not only make their daily lives easier but also help them assert their rights, defend those of others, and be aware of their duties.
Content of the Textbook
Designed for an audience aged 12 to 18, the partners of the “LAW IN EVERYDAY LIFE” project have crafted this textbook to be as relevant as possible to the daily reality of young Europeans. Titled "Law in Everyday Life, Textbook," it is divided into five main sections:
- State and Governance: Discover the structures of the state, types of governance, and the role of public institutions. Learn how governments are formed, their responsibilities, and their interactions with citizens.
- Rights and Freedoms: Explore fundamental rights and civil liberties, including human rights, freedom of expression, and the right to privacy.
- Legal System and Procedures: Dive into the workings of the legal system, including different jurisdictions, the judicial process, and the stages of legal procedures.
- Family, Personal Rights, and Responsibilities: Address the legal aspects of family life, individual rights, and personal responsibilities, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and parental obligations.
- Economic and Social Rights: Discover rights related to the economy and society, such as labor rights, social protection, and consumer rights. This chapter highlights the economic and social issues that impact our daily lives.
An Educational Approach
Each chapter concludes with a series of review questions, allowing students to revisit key terms and concepts covered. These exercises aim to reinforce understanding and assimilation of the presented information.
We hope this textbook will help young people better understand the law. As for the answer to the question posed in the introduction, you’ll find it in the textbook… without Googling it!
