Illuminating disadvantage - research report

Language: EN

Posted by Zoltan Varkonyi

The subtitle of the research report is - Profiling the experiences of adults with Entry level literacy or numaracy over the lifecourse

This report builds on the research into poor skills and social disadvantage described in New Light in Literacy and Numeracy. It uncovers the history of experiences and circumstances that lie behind poor basic skills in adulthood and their consequences for life chances and adult functioning.

The experiences from birth to age 34 of adults with skills at Entry 2 or below are contrasted with those of adults with Entry 3, Level 1 or higher skills. The impact of poor skills on education, employment, access to digital technology, home and family life are all examined.
