E-skills for all learners: the implementation of mobile learning in adult education.
Lesson scenario: Tapas Culture in Spain
Adult learners will learn about Spanish gastronomy, the use of the imperative and study new Spanish vocabulary.
Stages:
- At school: Brainstorm session: In class students participate in a Mentimeter survey asking them in real time for the names of the tapas they already know (holiday experience…etc.). Students work in pairs and use 1 device (tablet or phone) to create digital content.
- At school: Students will participate in a Kahoot!Quiz in teams to introduce once again the Tapa Culture of Spain.
- At home: students log in on the school’s digital platform and make exercises in a learning path. These exercises are auto-correcting exercises and videos about: vocabulary in a Spanish bar, imperative (how to order), vocabulary of food and drinks…
- At school: Students get 3 QR-codes. In small groups they use their devices to open the websites giving them the recipe (in Spanish – imperative) of a tapa. In the school’s kitchen they’ll find all the necessary material and ingredients and will have to prepare the tapas.
Strengths:
Collaboration: especially for 3 activities at school they will have to work together in order to get the task done.
Gamification: Adult learners are also very eager to win the quiz
Authentic Environment: Students don’t just watch videos and read texts about the tapas culture but get to prepare tapas in a kitchen.
Weaknesses:
Students don’t have the ownership of the activity. They’ll have to cook what is on their QRcode.
The learning paths are not adapted to individual needs. All exercises are made to ‘average level’.
