Out-of-the-box thinking inside the ‘box’
Possible topic(s) for KA210 or Ka220 projects, especially in today’s digital reality, related to deepening soft skills in individuals.
Focusing on thinking types as an insufficient approach
With regard to ways of thinking, we are now talking about different types of thinking (especially in the light of development challenges), such as critical, creative, divergent, convergent, lateral, (non)linear, abstract, analytical, associative thinking...
When it comes to out-of-the-box thinking, we relate this challenge to these types of thinking, which seem to be an inefficient approach. To trigger out-of-the-box thinking (in adult educators, adult learners, or others), it seems more appropriate to consider within which type of human mindset out-of-the-box thinking can be triggered. Within the HOW4 Matrix of Human Mindset, developed by Centre Spirala, there are four different mindsets (inertial, transformative, dispositive, archetypal) in human thinking perception.
When we give a lot of attention and credit to this kind of 'out-of-the-box' thinking, we often overlook that it often operates inside the first 'inertial human mindset', meaning that our thinking is still very much 'in the box'. To understand this paradox, it is important to look at all human mindsets and see how deeper 'out-of-the-box' thinking can be achieved.
CENTER SPIRALA - Center of Selfmobility is an NGO research and development institute in the social and humanistic field. We combine three types of activities, conducting qualitative research and evaluation, developing innovative thinking models in the light of the AI-influenced future, and occasionally conducting non-formal adult education on evolving themes such as humanism & virtualism, identity crisis & virtual addiction, timelessness & silence, and sustainability & growth. Project work in 24 years of activity.
