Music and Cultural Awareness

We are keen to invite all EPALE members throughout Europe to join our virtual project under Collaborative Spaces entitled:
"Shared Performance of Musics of the World to enhance Cultural Awareness, Respect and celebration of Diversity."
A core idea for this virtual music project is that contributors will be invited to share and upload not just words but actual musical performance in audio-visual form, that could potentially be used in learning situations across the whole age spectrum. The music may be self-created or from your archives of recorded music. In effect, I am suggesting that music is a universal language that transcends spoken national languages or dialects; and can have a potent influence on cultural awareness and understanding of one's own and other people's histories. Music of course can be abused, especially in conflict situations or ideological power struggles, and debate and discussion about these issues is essential in our project. Participants will be asked to allow their musical and/or curriculum materials to be used with appropriate acknowledgements and copyright protection by any other member of our closed group, who will in due course report back on and evaluate their activities. Ideally a virtual library will be built up from which practitioners and learners can "borrow" musical materials. Applications for EU funding for emerging local projects can also be discussed.
Being a closed group, applicants are approved individually, so the sharing of ideas and materials is private and secure. We would love to hear from you, whether an education practitioner, a media specialist, or someone interested in lifelong learning like myself. People from all European countries are invited to join, and translation facilities are provided.
With Best wishes,
Brian Caul
