Integration of eLearning in adult education curriculum to reinforce accessibility to second chance education

IEPS Evere-Laeken is a second chance education institution located in Brussels and organising adult education at secondary and higher education levels with an offer of courses on days and/or evenings basis. Diploma delivered are in the sector of paramedical (care-workers, youth care-workers), informatics and languages (French for foreigners and English). We intend to set up a strategic partnership to answer our needs of international cooperation and exchange of practices in order to reinforce the quality of our pedagogical practices. A team of 9 colleagues forming the Erasmus+ team, including the director Katty Mertens, is eager to work on the subject.

Theme of the project

Having started to introduce eLearning practices in our teaching offer as an internal pilot project last year in bachelor degrees, we intend with this project to go further with this initiative and explore the subject with qualified partners across Europe. Our institution will specifically target the care-workers area and students which is a secondary level diploma with long term involvement of the students before graduation (4 years) and offering lots of possibilities to integrate eLearning activities.

The main objectives of the project is to reinforce the access to this subject of study. Indeed, the students attending our institution are adults having work and/or families responsibilities and it would help them to pursue their study if part of the learning work could be done at home when they have time to do it. It would lead to a desynchronization of the organisation of the learning activities to better match the needs of each students who will be supported by the teachers in a more individual way.

Activities foreseen:

Research, design, development, testing, evaluation and implementation of an eLearning framework dedicated to care-workers students and adapted to a second chance/adult education context.
Exchange of ideas and practices on the subject.
Development of 2 intellectual outputs: framework to implement eLearning activities and design of a new curriculum including eLearning activities
Dissemination and communication activities
2 or 3 years’ project depending on the specific work programme and the final number of partners
2 or 3 transnational meetings/year  

Type of partners we are looking for

The partnership already includes a partner from France (Université de Strasbourg) and we also consider to include a partner from Canada with whom we already have worked successfully in the past: Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB).
