WOMEN - Women of Mediterranean east and south European Network
WOMEN it’s an international network of women representing active institutions and associations in
the Mediterranean, the Balkans area and East Europe. Founded in 1999, its aim is to promote equal
opportunities between women and men and to contribute to the valorisation of cultural differences
and cultures in general.
WOMEN refers in its action to the results of ONU IV Woman World Conference (Beijing, 1995), who has found in mainstreaming, that is to say, in the permanent integration of women point of view in all political fields, legislative and programming, and in empowerment, that is assigning women’s responsibility and power and in the valorisation of their ability and competences, an essential strategy or the improvement of women’s life condition.
WOMEN works to carry out exchanges and projects, especially in the area of localized co- operation, proceeding through dialogs with the agents of local development to turn to account the specificities and the experiences calling them to interact in a reciprocal and complementary perspective.
WOMEN, therefore sets up an operative place and a tool of comparison between agents both northern and southern parts of the world.
Its intend is to commence exchanges between women’s to foster political actions and theoretical reflections geared to give back dignity to women in peace and war, building bridges beyond conflicts and frontiers.
WOMEN wants to promote feminine civil society in public places, to highlight the best “good praxis” experimented to produce an increase of feminine presence in the places of local regional and national government; to encourage a culture that turns valorise knowledge, women competence and equal opportunities; help to carry out conventions about equal treatment and remuneration, and working and social securities discrimination; to build a policies of welfare, to project and act policies that assure social cushions in favour of unfortunate women.
