Our school is a state institute which offers education to adults that for some reason interrupted or quited from their studies during their teenage youth. Our final diplome corresponds to high school education equivalent final diplome. Our colleagues originate from the civil system of education in Greece. Our students come from various social and economic origins, mostly vulnerable social groups.
Our school forms an organization which provides an official diplome equivalent to the diplome of the State High School Graduation addressed to adults. Our curriculum, as an afternoon educational entity, consists of courses about Greek Language, Sciences, Sociology, History and Political Theory, English Language, with an exceptional teaching dedicated to Mathematicss, arts and music theory with an exceptional teaching dedicated to Maths, Computers and Greek Language as basic bonds to the formation of the student and citizen educational profile of our attendants. The timetable of the teaching procedure takes usually place at the afternoon(s) taking into account the working hours of the adult society and parental and other duties of our students at their daytime. The attendance of our adult audience/students to our two years circle of studies is often satisfying and of intense interest. Our students come from an agrarian or semi urban background and likely, they once quiited their studies during their adolescence for economic reasons or difficulties in transportation to school locations. The recent years our school succeds in integrating a multitude of immigrants from neighboring or afar countries, serving as a stepping stone to their placement to Greek economy and society offering courses of language and occasions of learning history and social anthropology of their current country of residence.
However, our schools undertakes actions and festivities of local or national interest such as participations to educational contests on the basis of school preparation and student skills, visits to folklore institutions and history museums to introduce the students to their surrounding backround that echoes their personal or collective memory, organizes visits and lectures (in)to places of industrial interest in order to narrate the articulation of the modern constitutions and mode of human existence. All of these remain pedagogical tools to challenge the sensitivity of the students to knowledge and of course, a vivid form of teaching applicable to our audience. On the other hand, in accordance to our teaching curriculum our schools operates learning projects about theatre, production of agrigultural goods and foods, local history, clothing, dialects or religiosity and more. Our plan is to expand our scope of lecturing by introducing either synchronic and innovative methods of adult education, in order to learn wider range of disciplines to learn enabling our students to be more effective in their everyday life, family and work. They also learn how to be more self efficient by using all these pedagogical methods and involving them in several ways to adult education.
Our teaching stuff consists of professional and specialists extorted from the official state educational system and the management of the institution, Second Chance High School of Florina, is supervised by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs of Hellenic Democracy. The school year runs as same with the rest of national secondary education at our home country from 1 Sep to 30 Jun.
The embodiment of meeting events with foreign fellow educators, new pedagogical perspectives, diverse methods of adult learning, realization of school projects for adults (or not), further scientific training for us as educators and supervisors, participation in international projects and events remain naturally as a principal aim to our professional life, scholarly taste and working obligations. Having already a background of collaborations on educational topics and scientific and social issues of high interest and value, we underline our declaration to meet fellow European institutions that work on plans and projects for adults such as art teaching, history and microhistory, life in democracy, human rights, law, integration of foreigners and/or immigrants, inclusion, religion in current Europe and ofcourse, school routine and climate, sociological factors of a classroom, climate into the class.
Our school is offering a multitude of years experience and efficacy on matters of adult education within a friendly environment that faced and dealed with matters of illiteration, integration of immigrants, roma attendance to school, daytime working heroes who are craving, supervised by teachers and professionals of high dedication to the task, of good working skills and high leveled studies, familiar to English, French, Dutch and the Scandinavian languages and teaching methodologies, so far operated a few Erasmus+ projects and remains willing enough to comprehend the parametres of modern education in increasingly changing conditions, so as to be more successful in our task with our students.
