We are Kaunas District Municipal Public Library - one of the oldest district municipal libraries in Kaunas. We do our best already 67 years! All the time we raised our book funds and library functions, so did and still do our visitors and readers.
Today the public library is one functional center located in Garliava, with its 30 subordinate units located in different places of Kaunas district.
The public library has 3 reading rooms, a cataloging and assembly of documents, in which new publications are handled.
In order to implement innovative activities a separate Children's Center is being installed, where integrated lessons and various educational events for children are held.
146 computerized workstations for library readers are installed in the municipality's public library and its departments libraries, famous for its interesting and attractive activities, as well as free wireless internet.
Also we regularly host series of professional art events, activities of the University of the Third Age; Meetings with writers and other distinguished people of Lithuania are organized.
Over 2000 visual and verbal events take place in the public library and its departments, with about 36,000 visitors attending over a year.
Libraries are constantly undergoing computer literacy training for library visitors who are led by highly qualified librarians.
The high level material base and qualified professionals provide access to IT equipment for everyone, as well as for children and adults, in order to realize the concept of lifelong learning.
Library readers are able to use e-resources: e-books, subscribed databases. Interdisciplinary studies of exact sciences, Lithuanian language, mathematical history and other subjects are held here. Non-formal education activities with virtual reality glasses and robots are taking place.
The Kaunas District Municipal Public Library and its 30 departments functions and services provided to the district community are covering both informational, cultural, educational, social and leisure activities. Each year, the public library offers its visitors not only high-quality, but also innovative services through the development of cultural projects, which are partly financed by the Lithuanian Cultural Council, the European Cultural Commission's Representation and the Department of Cultural Heritage.
By completing projects the spectrum of services provided at the public library or its subsidiaries is constantly increasing. The attention and active interest in innovations shown by the community motivates our professional specialist team to continuously take interest in those innovations and share the gathered knowledge by organizing various activities for children and youth at the library.
Co-operating with Lithuanian Labour Exchange, we accept young adults aged 16 to 29 to volunteer at the library, providing them with opportunities to learn professional, social, personal competencies and work experience in creative, cultural and social sectors, as well as helping them smoothly merge into the labour market. Moreover, sometimes parents come to volunteer at our library.
Striving to satisfy and act according to the needs of our community, Municipal Public Library of Kaunas District organizes individual projects or collaborates with other organizations and institutions – schools, culture centers, NGOs (non-governmental organizations), which take part in creating a cultural and social environment and bringing the community closer together.
The main activities of our library are:
1. Book lending;
2. Informal education;
