Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski is the oldest higher education institution in Bulgaria, founded on 1 October 1888. Today it is the largest and most prestigious educational and scientific centre in the country with 16 faculties and three departments. The university takes an active part in lots of projects funded by national and European programmes, by ministries, national agencies, NGOs and business enterprises. It plays an active role in preparing and conducting policies of national, regional and international significance. The Faculty of Philosophy is one of the largest research centres in Southeast Europe in the field of social sciences and humanities. The faculty educates over 3000 students from over 20 countries each year in three educational degrees (bachelor, master and doctor) in the following departments: Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Political science, Cultural studies, Public administration, European Studies, Rhetoric, Library, and Information studies. Academic staff: 53 professors, 61 associate professors, 72 assistant professors. Administrative staff – 27 employees. The Faculty of Philosophy offers group or individual short-term and long-term continuing training for graduates (postgraduate qualification, specialization) both in regular or distance form of learning. The faculty actively supports the training and scientific career of over 200 PhD students by involving them in research projects and international activities.
