The Directorate of the Gallipoli Historic Site (Çanakkale Savaşları Gelibolu Tarihi Alan Başkanlığı)
The Directorate of the Gallipoli Historic Site is a public institution affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey. It was established to protect, promote, and develop sustainable tourism in the Gallipoli Peninsula, where the Çanakkale Wars occurred. The administration is responsible for protecting the historical and cultural heritage of the Gallipoli Peninsula, conducting scientific research in the area, and organizing educational activities.
Duties and Authorities: The primary duties of The Directorate of the Gallipoli Historic Site include:
- Protecting the natural and cultural assets of the historical site,
- Providing guide services to domestic and international tourists visiting the area,
- Organizing educational and awareness programs,
- Coordinating and supporting national and international scientific projects related to the site,
- Planning and implementing necessary infrastructure and superstructure works without disturbing the historical texture of the area.
Projects and Activities: The directorate has implemented numerous projects to enrich visitors' experience in the Gallipoli Peninsula. These include establishing interactive information centers for visitors, conducting restoration and preservation work at battlefields and memorials, and developing information panels and digital guide applications in various languages. Additionally, the administration demonstrates its organizational capability and effectiveness in cultural diplomacy through the annual commemoration ceremonies held on March 18th, the anniversary of the Çanakkale Naval Victory, and on April 25th, Anzac Day.
