Session 3: Steps to Solar System Design

About the Session

The third session of the second module delved deeper into the preparation steps required for creating an off-grid solar power system. Armed with a solid grasp of electricity basics and simple consumption calculations acquired from the previous session, participants were now ready to explore various design aspects. They gained insight into analysing consumption profiles, sizing their battery bank and inverter, choosing PV panels, charge controllers, cables fuses and breakers, as well as making a cost estimate of their system.

Moreover, participants had the opportunity to practice on the above through a collaborative mock exercise on the Miro board, making their first attempt in designing an off-grid solar power system.
