Toolkit – a collection of 20 workshop scenarios

Toolkit – 20 Workshop Scenarios – represents a tangible project result (intellectual output) developed within the "Food Literacy for Local Food" (FL4LF) project. This toolkit is an integral part of the Community-based Food Literacy Learning Model, which consists of the following components:

1. Guide - Community-based Food Literacy Learning Model and how to support multi-vulnerable adults

2. FL4LF Competency Table - Food Literacy Competency Framework for Adults

3. Toolkit – a collection of 20 workshop scenarios

Join this interactive and informative journey, where learning is fun and impactful! Whether you are a seasoned educator or just starting out, the toolkit is crafted to meet your needs and enhance your teaching arsenal.

What is it about?

The toolkit is developed to work with multi-vulnerable groups of adults – to contribute to their empowerment and education in the area of food literacy and local food concepts and application of knowledge and skills in real situations. It is designed for educators/adult education organisations and addresses a broad public, specifically targeting operators who work directly with adults. It is a collection of 20 workshop scenarios that contribute to rounding off the Community-based Food Literacy Learning Model for adults through ideas for practical application.

→ The toolkit stems from the Guide – Community-based Food Literacy Learning Model and how to support multi-vulnerable adults, which is the basis of this adult learning model.

→ The toolkit uses the FL4LF Competency Table – Food Literacy Competency Framework for Adults to assess learning outcomes (pre-/post-evaluation) and addresses the competency aspects covered by this framework.

Also, workshop scenarios follow a matrix built on three pillars embedded in Community-based Food Literacy Learning Model initiatives:

▪ reconnecting with the producers who feed us (local farmers)

▪ supporting local vendors (local farmers)

▪ reducing wastage/throw of food (zero food waste)

We invite all users of this toolkit to look for the other components of the Community-based Food Literacy Learning Model at https://www.fl4lf.eu/resources.html, and we recommend that they use them in combination to have a rounded whole.

TOOLKIT STRUCTURE

After the Foreword and a warm welcome follow Section 1: Essential Materials and Equipment. This first section outlines all the basic materials and equipment needed to set up any of the workshops described in this toolkit - think of this as a "master list" of critical ingredients for cooking up a successful workshop experience.

20 workshop scenarios are grouped into three sections:

Section 2: Reconnecting with the producers who feed us (local farmers)

Section 3: Supporting local vendors (local farmers)

Section 4: Reducing wastage/throw of food (zero food waste)

The practical part with suggestions for work ends with Section 5: Ice Breakers Proposals - the most flavorful morsel of preparation — 7 icebreakers for opening any of the presented workshop scenarios. Like cooking – where it starts by preheating the oven and gathering all the ingredients – FL4LF workshops begin by setting the right atmosphere and energising participants. Ice-breakers are the spices and seasonings that transform a good workshop into a great one, fostering an environment of openness and creativity.

In Annex I are listed accompanying and learning materials.

FL4LF Workshop Scenarios – accompanying material as additional proposals

→ Proposals for greater versatility FL4LF Toolkit, created to inspire adult educators to integrate multiple scenarios for a better learning experience

These additional proposals serve as companion materials to the FL4LF - Toolkit - 20 Workshop Scenarios, enhancing its applicability and providing educators with a broader perspective. By combining various workshop scenarios, educators can create a more unified approach to specific topics, fostering deeper engagement and understanding among learners. Specifically, these scenarios offer opportunities to complement workshops focused on reducing food waste or to align with sessions centred on reconnecting with local producers and supporting community vendors. This flexibility empowers educators to tailor their programs to their learners' unique needs and interests, maximising the impact of food literacy education.

Concept summary: These workshop scenarios are designed to encourage adult educators to consider ways to combine several workshop scenarios presented in the FL4LF - Toolkit - 20 Workshop Scenarios to get a more unified whole on a particular topic. They are additional proposals as companion material to the developed toolkit to get a broader picture and strengthen applicability.

Ways of combining: Workshop scenarios can be the basis for combining with any workshop in section 4 - Reducing wastage/throw of food (zero food waste) or complementing any workshop scenario in section 2 - Reconnecting with the producers who feed us (local farmers) and section 3 - Supporting local vendors (local farmers) described in FL4LF - Toolkit - 20 Workshop Scenarios.
