Visiting a library for the first time

As Canik Public Education Center we aim to provide our Literacy Course trainees with basic knowledge and skills related to daily life and the rules of conduct in the social field, as well as sustainable reading and writing habits.

Before the COVİD-19 outbreak,  our students who gained basic literacy skills were given Library literacy training in order not to forget what was learned, and gain the habit of reading books and to internalize social rules.

Trainees aged between 19-70 who had never been to the library before and had not received books were given The Library Literacy training  by the library director and staff doing it on-site.

With this training, our trainees learned how to borrow books that are appropriate to their level and interest, what the conditions of membership in the library  and the rules to be followed in the library are , when to return the books , how the books are placed on shelves according to their subjects , and they also learned that when they want to read, they can come to the library and borrow books or spend time among books in the library.

With this training; It is aimed to decrease the number of students who want to come to the course again by thinking that their reading has decreased although they the basic skills of literacy. Another aim was to make the reading skills sustainable, information literacy after the habit of reading.

It was worth seeing the happiness and childlike excitement in the eyes of our adult trainees who wanted to take the pain of years passed without reading . and realized their dreams by knowing and applying the rules in the magical world of libraries.
