PLA Conference and Awards 2016

At last year's PLA conference the Justice Secretary had just announced two reviews. One led by Dame Sally Coates into prison education for adults and one led by Charlie Taylor into the Youth Justice System. Both reviews have since come up with some radical solutions to improve learning in custody.
At this year's PLA conference attendees will explore the changing policy environment by hearing from a range of speakers including Ian Bickers, Governor of HMP Wandsworth - one of the new 'reform' prisons, Labour MP for Cardiff Central Jo Stevens, and Kenny Brown, Cluster Governor for Wales. Attendees will have the chance to discuss the challenges and opportunities these policy changes may bring as well as sharing good practice focusing on 'personalised and peer-enabled approaches'.
Former learners and other experts will be present to discuss measuring the wide-ranging impact of prison education and how the PLA's new 'Theory of Change' evaluation framework can help. There will also be plenty of time for networking.
There will also be a celebration of the achievements of teachers, officers and peer mentors as part of the annual award ceremony.
