The United Nations Educational Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) declared September 8 as "World Literacy Day". Various events are organized in our country on this occasion.

The Ministry of National Education regularly conducts literacy activities for illiterate citizens. Literacy studies are one of the most important fields of activity of the General Directorate of Lifelong Learning. Finally, as of 01 February 2018, the Ministry of Literacy Mobilization has been initiated under the auspices of  President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN and his wife Mrs. Emine ERDOĞAN for the literate learning of illiterate adults. The mobilization, in which our citizens show great interest, still continues.

Since February 1, 2018, the date when the Literacy Mobilization started, 9,737,900 participants have participated in 94,781 adult literacy courses. Intense interest in Literacy Mobilization continues.

Within the scope of temporary protection, the Ministry of National Education organizes courses within the scope of public education centers in hundreds of fields, especially Turkish teaching, for foreign nationals in our country. Between 2014 and 2018, 38,483 adults attended adult literacy courses.
