Learning to be - Building resilience in the Event Industry Labour Market
The industry associated with organising and running events is suffering particularly from the restrictions of the Corona pandemic. For a year now, it has been impossible to host events: there is a lack of income and the future prospects are uncertain. This has far-reaching consequences! Even after the lockdowns, the crisis will not be over for the industry; professional staff is leaving the industry rapidly. When events can finally take place again: Who will then build the stage, mix the sound or control the lighting?
The pervasive Corona crisis has not only brought the event industry to a standstill, but at the same time accelerated the trend towards digital teaching. While basic education institutions have been largely successful in making the transition, the vocational and especially adult education sector is struggling with the provision of virtual teaching and the feasibility of examinations. The provision of e.g. safety-relevant further education is hardly guaranteed any more due to the compulsion to "avoid contact". The BF/M-Bayreuth and its project partners are addressing this situation in several initiatives which will be introduced in the event. Specifically, the core questions "How can the training and further education of key vocational qualifications be provided in a crisis-proof manner?" and "Which interdisciplinary skills and competences must be specifically strengthened in the target groups of learners, teachers and educational organisations?" are addressed.
The current labour market situation in the event industry highlights the need for more flexible education and training models to enable faster exit or re-entry into the labour market. The event industry offers a strongly multicultural and international working environment, and is subject to rapid technological change - sparking high innovativeness in the sector and its actors. With this background, the TeBeVAT project series under the leadership of BF/M-Bayreuth is researching the development and establishment of partial qualifications in the progfessional field of event technology, which shall be recognised Europe-wide. In a specially developed certification process, both career changers and those who have been working for many years are to be given the opportunity to validate their skills through external examination of competences and to participate from the labour market. To this end, partial certification also in the form of micro-credentials, could be used. The clou: learners do not have to go through time-consuming training modules for this, but can have already competences validated. This methodology promises a great boost for the vent sector labour market: workers could change professions more flexibly between countries and neighbouring industries.
In the event, roundtables will discuss requirements, opportunities and risks provided by micro-credentials for vocational education and training and partial certification in comparison to the status quo. Educators, researchers and professionals from the sector are invited to share their experiences, opinions and expectations for future developments in a post-COVID world for VET and and the event industry!
The event will be streamed. Participants can register via our Homepage: TebeVAT.eu. The lnk to the streaming-site will be sent a fews days ahead of the event via mail.
